Do you feel like a performer balancing seven plates and four cups atop twirling sticks—all while juggling three balls on a tightrope?  Do you find yourself fondly yearning for when the semester will be finished….when the children will be out of diapers….when they will be out of school….when taxes are finished for another year…when inventory is done…or….

Knowing God has sprinkled cycles throughout our lives does not automatically mean we skillfully use those cycles to full advantage. Whether students, housewives, employees, church workers, or executives, we all face responsibilities and take part in activities that consume various amounts of our time. Even though all our present life experiences are packed into earth time, we cannot neglect eternity’s reality. We must train ourselves to shift our attention on a regular basis, between daily details and the eternal outlook. This is the time to lift our sights beyond immediate pressures and to reflect on the comprehensive scene, the scene with purposes larger than our own small sphere. Read more

In the natural world, the moon demonstrates a monthly cycle. Women need look no further than their own bodies for an example of another monthly cycle. The Lord has been so good allowing women to experience first-hand the flow of creative power, and should know better than others, it is not a constant surge, or a perpetual strength, but ebbs and flows, being quiet and active in turn. Our lives can be stronger by working with the pattern set by that cycle. Read more

Many parts of life should receive fresh, daily attention. We are to thank God daily for our food. With all deference to man’s invention of light bulbs, sleep should daily consume a large portion of the dark hours.  Personal relationships are to receive daily attention, especially addressing relationship problems (let not the sun go down upon your wrath, and in the day that ye hear it…).  Our personal walk with the Lord is to be fresh each day with time dedicated to Him in both the morning and the evening. Refreshment and security are wonderful benefits of the time cycles. In their own way, each different cycle offers an opportunity to start fresh. Most provide a chance to view our lives and time from the hilltop, or from the air, rather than from the trenches. The very fact that the time cycles return provides a sense of security, a  hope that a solution to troubles must be closer. Read more
