What Do You Think of This?

A far more secular slant on the ‘health benefits’ of resting one day out of seven is found here. What do you think?

Personally, I always find it amazing that people can make money from the Lord’s “good advice.” The article engendered some little family discussion about what work really is. What do you think? Your family? Of course, I was particularly pleased to see mentioned what I have long said about keeping the day free: it makes you spend the other days more wisely and you tend to plan better. Both back planning and profitable inefficiencies are the time tools that get the greatest work outs when someone attends to a day of rest.

The Lord’s Day of the Bible was certainly a corporate and cultural event. The day was “kept” by everyone and not toeing the line resulted in legal ramifications.

Do you think something is lost if people just decide to ‘stop’ on whatever day best suits them, allowing the world of businesses and stores and corporate enterprises to continue round the clock because while someone is ‘stopping’ somewhere, others are continuing active work?

Should enforcing a ‘stop day’ be part of a national good health care program? What do you think the results of a careful scientific study of the topic might be? What if the author’s personal family experiences and his conclusions from other studies wouldn’t hold up?

Does emphasizing supposed health benefits demean or enhance the “divine” foundations of the day?

Does a current, modern book espousing a one day of rest out of seven make you feel more or less like it is a good idea to implement in your own life ?

Would any natural health benefits be increased if a resting day is not just a physical not working day but is given the added spiritual impact of a day that is kept holy by setting aside personal pleasures?

Articles such as these are worth some family and friend talking time as you seek to position the world’s applications of biblical principles into a genuine biblical worldview. Have fun reading and thinking and talking about this topic today!
